Seldom has a franchise done so much with so little. The Oakland A's are the working man's team. From the Spartan setting of Alameda County Coliseum- not nestled in a park like setting but in a dingy grey industrial area- to MLB's tightest Salaries there is nothing luxurious here. What you will find though is a franchise ranked 3rd (behind only the Yankees and Cardinals) with 9 World Series Titles. Founded in 1901 in Philadelphia the team won 3 of the 4 World Series from 1910 - 1913 and back to back World Series in 1929- 1930. They spent the years of 1955-1967 without much acclaim in St. Louis before being moved to Oakland in 1968. After being call a "White Elephant" by NY Giants manager John McGraw the team adopted the image as their mascot (even though once owner, Charles O'Finley tried changing it to a donkey during the St Louis period). Today "Stomper" the elephant patrols the field to cheer the A's on to victory. Perennial pennant contenders the A's have the AL record for consecutive wins at 20 in 2002. There are talks about a new stadium but for now enjoy a game in the shadow of Mount Graham as you piece together this exciting puzzle.
